About Iota Nu Sigma

At the dawn of the new millennium, four Sigma brothers boldly chose to branch out and chart a new course for Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. in the city of Chicago. Those brothers shared a boundless vision of what Sigma could become and wanted their dreams to grow from fresh and fertile ground. They issued a call to dozens of their brothers to help Sigma achieve new heights. With an initial group of nearly 25, those men reactivated the Iota Nu Sigma chapter and renewed their commitment to the fraternity. And they’ve exemplified the Fraternity’s high ideals of Brotherhood, Scholarship and Service ever since.

In 2000, the chapter laid its groundwork by selecting officers and committee chairmen, establishing a chapter constitution and developing an organizational structure. The chapter adopted a long-range plan to develop “The Sigma Center,” a community center from which the chapter would base its operations and house its programs.

In addition, the chapter spread the news of its arrival by producing promotional materials bearing a sleek, sharp and professional look. Iota Nu Sigma reached hundreds more by developing a first-class web site and publishing its quarterly magazine, The Sentinel.

The chapter also participated in several programs including financial seminars, holiday celebrations for children, a skating party and other fundraisers. On the lighter side, Iota Nu Sigma turned heads with its dashing looks and stylish moves and claimed the top prize in a local stepping competition among alumni chapters of black Greek-lettered organizations.

In 2005, the Chapter introduced a revloutionary program geared towards increasing financial membership. The Dues Payment Program provided brothers with different payment options on paying dues. As a result, Iota Nu Sigma’s membership has increased each year.

The chapter introduced the monthly after-work networking social, Blue Tuesdays, and a monthly service project serving breakfast to homeless men at Pacific Garden Mission. The chapter also established its Sigma Beta Club, the fraternity’s youth auxiliary for males 8 to 18 years of age; the PBS Open, a scholarship golf outing; and the PassRite Foundation, an educational foundation and rites of passage program for young men.

The year 2007 proved to be a banner year for Chapter. After a little more than six years in existance, Iota Nu Sigma nabbed top honors at Conclave 2007. In addition to winning Model Chapter of the Year, Iota Nu Sigma was named Largest Graduate Chapter of the Year (Great Lakes Region), largest Chapter contributor to the March of Dimes WalkAmerica and largest individual contributor to the March of Dimes Walk America (Charles Talbert)
